“Pirates of Mutiny Bay” at Alton Towers, UKBSTE were commission by Alton Towers to design and install a bespoke flame system for a new outdoor stage show called Pirates of Mutiny Bay which was one of the main attractions within the Mutiny Bay themed land. The system had to shoot flame from the eyes of a giant skull to the rear of the stage as well as two other fireball effects within the floor of the stage itself. Due to the close proximity of the audience and the fact that actors would be on stage when the effects were firing the whole system had to have a multitude of safety features built in not least of which was an air purge on all effects immediately after the effect had been fired. The show control, provided by Alton Towers, sent “fire” cues to our system which, in turn, would fire the effects. The effects also had to be water proofed as the show was obviously outside.
